via Daily Prompt: Successful

(Disclaimer: This post has nothing to do with cancer! That, in and of itself, is a wonderful thing because there was a time, not too long ago, when I couldn’t think past my husband’s cancer. Life does move on. Or at least it ebbs and flows. Thanks be to God!)

Success is when you have a goal and accomplish it. You meet–or exceed–your own expectations. What happens in between is hard work mixed in with luck and circumstance.

Today, I feel successful because yesterday I took my angst about our new President’s Inauguration and turned it into something positive. I marched with my own daughters, friends and hundreds of thousands of other people in support of the values we all hold dear.

My goal in marching was to show President Donald Trump and the world that we are paying attention. That we care. About ALL Americans and ALL people of ALL colors and religions and ethnicities and cultures and gender and sexual orientation and abilities. We care about our freedom to live peacefully, on a healthy planet, to breathe clean air, to drink clean water, to walk safely through our neighborhoods without fear of being shot. We care about kindness and we know that words have meaning, and that facts are facts and climate change is real. We believe that dissent is patriotic. We support public schools, whether or not we send our children to them, just as we support a woman’s right to choose, whether or not we would make the same choice. We believe in healthcare for all. We believe women’s bodies should not be the subject of locker room talk and if you feel entitled to talk that way, you should be ashamed of yourself and you definitely shouldn’t run for President. We raise our own sons to be respectful of women and their body parts. We believe sexual assault is real. We teach our daughters and sons to stand up to predators and bullies. We know that women’s rights are human rights. We rely on a free press to report what it sees. We embrace truth, we believe in peace and we throw kindness like confetti.

I am woman, hear me roar.*

Yesterday, we roared as one. Hundreds of thousands of women, children and men marched together peacefully, in DC and the world over, in solidarity with women everywhere.

The world saw and heard us. Donald Trump, take note. We will not stop roaring!

Yep, today I feel successful. I exceeded my goals for the day and I plan to keep on doing it.
